Skills Challenge
Game Show
The Skills Challenge is a game show designed to enhance youth leadership, promote
unity, and provide lots of fun and excitement! Teams consist of a youth team captain,
between the ages of 12 and 18 years old, and three additional team members.
Teams compete in preliminary rounds for a chance to appear on Bright
House Networks in the championship round. The top two teams

Spotlight On Youth Cable Television Show
The Spotlight On Youth Cable TV Show is another way to highlight programs, activities, events, and Birmingham’s youth. The show airs on Bright House Networks
Channel 4 and On-Demand Channel 1040. Each month, we cover a variety of youth-related information. Make sure you

Spotlight On Youth Nominations
DYS highlights youth who are using their hand, heads, and hearts to make a positive difference.
Birmingham youth between the ages of 6 and 17 years old can be nominated.
Nominations are open to individual youth “AND” organized youth groups. Winners
appear on DYS' Spotlight On Youth TV Show. You can link to

“Step in the Name of
Love” Step Extravaganza
The Step Extravaganza is a component of the annual donation drive DYS
facilitates as a part of its Youth First Holiday Campaign. During the
holiday season, step teams from churches, schools, and Greek
organizations perform at the event to help us collect food and gifts for
needy Birmingham youth and their families.
Summer Enrichment Camp Program
DYS partners with Space One Eleven to offer a variety of constructive activities for elementary and middle school-aged youth who live in the City of Birmingham. Camp activities are age-appropriate and have been designed to promote positive peer interaction, while offering a safe and fun environment. Youth Advisory Council
Are you a student between the ages of 8 and 25 years old? Do you have ideas that can make positive changes in our city? DYS wants to encourage youth to get involved by becoming a member of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC). YAC
is a part of DYS’ Youth Civic Involvement Initiative and gives
Birmingham youth the opportunity to play an active role in their
respective communities. Get involved today! LET YOUR VOICE BE

Youth First Holiday Campaign
The Youth First Holiday Campaign assists needy Birmingham youth who live in low-to-moderately low-income households, shelters, and residential living facilities by stuffing turkeys and stockings for the holiday season. DYS collects nonperishable food items and gifts through its Feed The Need Project, Holiday Giveaway, and “Step In The Name of Love” Step Extravaganza. Youth First Sports Network
The Youth First Sports Network is a collaborative effort between community-based sports organizations and the Division of Youth Services. The goal of the partnership is to serve notice to the public about sports programs that are available throughout the City of Birmingham.
